The Illinois Art Therapy Association (IATA) is an affiliate chapter of the American Art Therapy Association. IATA is an organization of professionals dedicated to the belief that the creative process involved in the making of art is healing and life enhancing. IATA was established in 1974, to provide art therapists, art therapy students, and other interested professionals opportunities to gather, and to exchange information and expertise concerning the therapeutic use of art.

Our mission is to:
  • Serve our members and the general public by endorsing standards of professional competence
  • Provide a network for people working toward common goals
  • Provide educational opportunities to expand our practice as art therapists
  • Promote knowledge in the field of art therapy

We accomplish our goals by offering:

  • An annual conference
  • Regular e-alerts of up-coming events and opportunities
  • Art making events
  • Special programs with guest lecturers
  • Community work/service projects
  • Continuing Education lectures
  • Movie nights
  • Art exhibitions
  • A referral directory of licensed members for potential clients
  • Information for students entering the field
