From 2023, IATA starts offering independent chapter membership without you having to also join AATA. This is our chapter's effort to make professional membership more accessible for Illinois Art Therapists. We look forward to you joining us and becoming part of our effort to bring our field in Illinois into the future.

IATA Student Membership

$25.00

Student membership is for any student who is currently enrolled in higher education in pursuit of a career in art therapy and mental health. From 2023, you can be an IATA chapter member without being an AATA member.

Welcome!  We are an active and engaged Association of members from all over the State of Illinois, dedicated to the growth of the field of art therapy and to increasing our knowledge about this specialized therapeutic practice. 

By joining the Illinois Art Therapy Association (IATA) you can: 
  • Participate in Networking Opportunities- Membership in IATA will assist you in making connections with peers and experts in the field of art therapy across the state and around the country, sharing ideas and increasing your knowledge of the field. Members also receive automatic discounts on IATA Conference attendance, and Continuing Education courses throughout the year.
  • Explore your Leadership Potential- IATA offers a wide range of opportunities for professional development, including presenting at the Annual IATA Conference, and other local events. Members are also invited and encouraged to participate in leadership roles throughout the Chapter, including committee and Board-level positions.
  • Create and Exhibit Artwork- As an organization that values self-expression through art making, IATA holds regular group art making sessions that are open to all members.  Additionally, all IATA members are eligible to submit artwork for exhibitions sponsored by IATA that are held throughout the Chicagoland area. 
  • Build on your Skills: Continuing Education- IATA is proud to present continuing education workshops in a relaxed atmosphere where we can learn and grow from sharing with one another. 
  • Promote your Practice- Members who are registered art therapists are invited to submit a profile for the IATA Referral Directory. This referral list is a resource to assist individuals, organizations/agencies, students, and colleagues in search of art therapy services, consultation, and supervision throughout the state of Illinois.
  • Stay in the loop with E-Alerts- Members of the Illinois Art Therapy Association receive automatic updates via email, which include timely information regarding news, events, exhibitions and networking opportunities in the Illinois art therapy community


Membership Categories: Descriptions and Fees


Professional: Dues are $30.00 per year.
Individuals who have completed graduate level education in art therapy. Professional members may vote, hold office, and serve on committees. 

Associate: Dues are $30.00 per year.
Individuals interested in the therapeutic use of art that supports the mission of IATA. This category is not open to master’s level art therapy program graduates. Associate members may not vote, hold office, or serve on committees. 

New Professional: Dues are $30.00 per year. 
Individuals who have completed graduate level educational training in art therapy within the last calendar year.  New professional members may vote, hold office, and serve on committees.

Student: Dues are $25 per year. 
​Individuals currently enrolled in a higher education in pursuit of career in art therapy and mental health. A copy of your student ID is required, please email it to [email protected]. 
​Students can serve on the committee but cannot vote.
