SO LATE SO SOON
A Film by Daniel Hymanson
A Film by Daniel Hymanson
So Late So Soon, a new documentary directed by Daniel Hymanson premieres this Friday at the Gene Siskel Film Center. The film profiles Chicago artists Jackie and Don Seiden* as they navigate a half century of marriage and artistic practice.
A bit more about the film: Half a century into their marriage, they approach the fragility of their elderly lives in their own distinct ways. Jackie, notorious for her unbound energy, is constantly on the move, inspired to create works of art while also maintaining the couple’s multistory, eccentric Victorian house. Don steadily sketches in his notebook while facing alarming interruptions to his health. Filmmaker Daniel Hymanson immersed himself with the Seidens, on-and-off for five years, capturing the hardships of aging as well as a view into enduring companionship, in this charming character study. See the trailer here and the film's review in the Hollywood Reporter.
The film will be showing throughout the weekend with director Daniel Hymanson and film participant Jackie Seiden in person at select screenings - we’d love to see you there and I’m providing more information about the screenings and the film below should you care to share this with your fellow board members and/or staff.

In addition to founding the art therapy department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, he has also served as a former chair for the sculpture, art education and art therapy departments at SAIC. Seiden is co-author of Direct Metal Sculpture and author of Mind Over Matter, author and illustrator of Artobiography, and co-author of the just-released Art Works: How Making Art Illuminates Your Life, with Amy G. Davis. (Excerpt credited to: http://www.donseiden.com/bio.htm)
